how does a Sprinkler System Design work

Different Components of Standard Sprinkler System and How They Work

A good yard sprinkler system design is necessary if you want a healthy garden and lawn. As manually watering these from time to time is sometimes not feasible when you have a large lawn and different species of plants that need watering in specific ways. A sprinkler system does save a great deal of time for the user. However, before you invest in one, you need to understand its basic components and functions.

Timer/controller

Modern sprinkler systems come with a timer that will control the flow of water for a certain period. They have a controller that is found on either the exterior or interior of the system. The timer will also control the operation of these and when to turn them off or on. Certain timers are more advanced and have moisture sensors that tell them when to automatically switch off the system and suspend the scheduled watering.

Valves

There is a series of valves that control each zone. Usually, the water pressure is not sufficient to run the entire system. These valves are in place to divide the different zones of the system and help them work independently from one another. They are usually color-coded to show the source of the water.

Sprinkler heads

There are different kinds of sprinkler heads, and each one will have its specific functions. They must be positioned around the garden to fully cover the entire area. Oscillating sprinkler heads will rotate and do cover a larger area. There are also drip heads that drip the water continuously overhead. When they are not in use, they are buried underground and pop up at set times.
